Temperature sensor for battery monitor BMV-702, BMV-702 Black, BMV-712 and VE.Bus Smart Dongle

The two-wire cable has a temperature sensor encased in a ring lug. The ring lug is connected to the positive terminal of the battery to be monitored, the red cable end - with the integrated fuse - is connected to terminal B1 on the shunt, and the black cable end is connected to terminal B2 on the shunt.

It should be noted that terminal B2 on the shunt is generally available for basic monitoring of a second battery (starter battery), for mid-point voltage monitoring, or for temperature monitoring. However, only one of these three options can be used; multiple use is not possible.

The temperature sensor can only be used with the BMV-702, BMV-702, BMV-712 black, and the VE.Bus Smart Dongle, and no other Victron temperature sensors (e.g., from Multiplus devices) may be connected.

The measured temperature can be displayed on the monitor in degrees Celsius or degrees Fahrenheit (see Section 4.2.5, setting number 67 of the manual).

The temperature measurement can also be used to adjust the available battery capacity according to the battery temperature (see Section 4.2.5, setting number 68 of the manual). The available battery capacity decreases with decreasing battery temperature. Compared to the capacity of a battery at 20°C, the capacity decreases by 18% at 0°C and already by 40% at -20°C. The battery monitor takes this into account in its calculation, so that an exact capacity display is always shown on the monitor at any battery temperature.
