In a motorhome, when the vehicle is stationary, the leisure battery is primarily charged (charger, solar, fuel cell, etc.). If the vehicle remains unused for a longer period, the starter battery will continue to discharge due to battery separation. However, many vehicles also put a strain on the starter battery during the season, as some consumers (radio, multimedia, parking light, alarm system, etc.) are always connected to it. The standby charger ensures that the starter battery is also charged – depending on the charge level of the leisure battery. The standby charger is suitable for all types of leisure batteries, including LiFePO4 (lithium).

In stationary operation, leisure and starter batteries in motorhomes are separated from each other. No current can flow in either direction. This is also sensible to protect the starter battery during periods of inactivity. Otherwise, it would be discharged by consumers along with the leisure battery, and the vehicle could no longer be started. However, this unfortunately also prevents the starter battery from being charged if there is more than enough power available on the leisure battery, for example through solar. Or if the leisure battery is charged by a charger at the pitch that does not have a special output for the starter battery. In some motorhomes, some power is also drawn from the starter battery during stationary operation (radio, clock, immobilizer, alarm system). To also recharge the starter battery and to supply additional consumers connected to it with power from the leisure battery, the standby charger was developed. The device monitors the voltages of the two battery systems, and current is released as needed. The Standby-LaderPro can also compensate for standby consumers with its 5 A. If you use lithium batteries (LiFePO4) as your leisure battery, you should always use the Standby-LaderPro.
