Victron Battery Monitor SmartShunt 500A/50mV, IP65, Bluetooth

There are currently two Smartshunt models from Victron. The functionality and performance of both models are absolutely identical. The difference is that the Smartshunt IP65 is waterproof, and the connections for battery voltage / midpoint voltage and the VE.direct connection are routed as 1.5m long cable connections. With the "normal" Smartshunt, these connections are located directly on the Smartshunt's housing in terminal or plug-in versions.

The SmartShunt IP65 is a multi-functional battery monitor, just without a display. Your phone acts as the display.

The SmartShunt IP65 is waterproof and is available in 500A, 1000A, or 2000A versions.

The SmartShunt connects via Bluetooth to the VictronConnect app on your phone (or tablet), allowing you to easily read all monitored battery parameters, such as state of charge, charge and discharge currents, battery voltage, remaining runtime, historical information, and much more. The VictronConnect app is available for free download from the App Store and Google Play Store.

Alternatively, the SmartShunt IP65 can be connected and read by a GX device. The connection to the SmartShunt is made via a VE.Direct cable.
Compatible GX devices include, for example, the Color Control GX or the Venus GX.

The SmartShunt IP65 is a good alternative to a BMV battery monitor, especially for systems where battery monitoring is required but less wiring and clutter are desired.

The SmartShunt IP65 is equipped with Bluetooth, a VE.Direct port, and a connection that can be used to monitor a second battery, monitor the midpoint, or connect a temperature sensor.

Differences compared to the BMV 712 battery monitor / battery computer:

• No programmable optical and audible alarm.
• No programmable relay.
• No display
• Waterproof

Note on Bluetooth signal range

The shunt and power cables have a negative impact on the Bluetooth signal range. However, the range of 10-15 meters achieved here is satisfactory in most cases. If other electrically conductive elements are nearby, such as the metal chassis of a vehicle or seawater around a boat's hull, the Bluetooth signal range can be reduced to an unacceptable level. The solution in such a case is an external VE.Direct Bluetooth Dongle (ASS030536011) and disabling Bluetooth in the SmartShunt.
