The precision battery monitor BMV-700 constantly monitors the status of your battery. Battery current and voltage are continuously measured. With this data, the current state of charge of your battery is accurately calculated and provides a reliable value, so you always know how much energy is still available.
Standard Features:
- Displays battery voltage, current, power, consumed amp-hours, and state of charge
- Displays remaining runtime at current discharge rate
- Programmable visual and audible alarm
- Programmable potential-free relay contact that switches when an adjustable state of charge or a specific battery voltage is reached, e.g., to switch off non-essential loads or to switch on a generator if necessary or to perform other actions, and of course switches back when a programmable threshold is reached.
- VE.Direct communication port
- Stores a wide range of historical data, which can be used to assess usage patterns and battery health (history values).
How it works:
Battery capacity is measured in amp-hours (Ah). For example, a battery that supplies 5A for 20 hours has a capacity of 100 Ah (5x20=100). The BMV continuously measures the current flowing into and out of the battery and calculates the amount of energy supplied or drawn. However, since the effective capacity of a battery also depends on its age, discharge current, and temperature, a simple consideration of amp-hours is not sufficient. For example, if a 100 Ah battery is discharged in two hours, it will only have an available capacity of 56 Ah due to the high discharge current.
Apparently, the battery capacity is almost halved. This phenomenon is called Peukert efficiency. In addition, capacity is further reduced by high or very low temperatures. Thus, simple measurement of amp-hours or voltage values is not sufficient to assess the state of charge of a battery. The BMV battery monitor displays both the actual Ah consumed and the current state of charge corrected with the Peukert coefficient and charge efficiency. Observing the state of charge is the best way to assess the battery's condition. The value is given as a percentage, with 100% meaning fully charged and 0% meaning completely empty. This can be compared to the fuel gauge in a car.
