The precision battery monitor BMV-702 continuously monitors the status of your battery. Battery current and voltage are continuously measured. With this data, the current state of charge of your battery is accurately calculated and provides a reliable value, so you always know how much energy is still available.
Standard Features:
- Displays battery voltage, current, power, consumed amp-hours, and state of charge
- Displays remaining run time at current discharge rate
- Programmable visual and audible alarm
- Programmable potential-free relay contact that switches when an adjustable state of charge or specific battery voltage is reached, e.g., to switch off non-essential loads, or to switch on a generator when needed, or to perform other actions, and of course, switches back when a programmable threshold is reached.
- VE.Direct communication port
- Stores a wide range of historical data, which can be used to assess usage patterns and battery condition (history values).
How it works:
Battery capacity is measured in amp-hours (Ah). For example, a battery that supplies 5A of current for 20 hours has a capacity of 100 Ah (5x20=100). The BMV continuously measures the current flow into and out of the battery and calculates the amount of energy supplied or removed. However, since the effective capacity of a battery also depends on age, discharge current, and temperature, a simple consideration of amp-hours is not sufficient. For example, if a 100 Ah battery is discharged in two hours, it will only have an available capacity of 56 Ah due to the high discharge current.
Apparently, the battery capacity is almost halved. This phenomenon is called Peukert's efficiency. In addition, the capacity is further reduced by high or very low temperatures. Thus, simply recording amp-hours or voltage values is not sufficient to assess the state of charge of a battery. The BMV battery monitor displays both the actually removed Ah and the current state of charge corrected with the Peukert coefficient and charge efficiency. By observing the state of charge, the battery condition can best be assessed. The value is given as a percentage, with 100% meaning fully charged and 0% meaning completely empty. This can be compared to the fuel gauge in a car.
Additional functions of the BMV-702 compared to the BMV-700:
- Additional input for measuring voltage (of a second battery), as well as associated alarm and relay settings for the second battery.
- Battery temperature measurement (only with optional temperature sensor BTS-702) and recalculation of the resulting available battery capacity.
- Midpoint voltage measurement (see below).
Please note that it is not possible to use several of the above additional functions simultaneously, as the same connection port on the shunt is always used.
New: Midpoint Voltage Monitoring (BMV-702 only)
This feature, commonly used in the industry to monitor large and expensive battery banks, is now available for the first time at a more affordable price, allowing any battery bank to be monitored. A battery bank consists of a string of cells connected in series. The midpoint voltage is the voltage after half of the string. Ideally, the midpoint voltage is exactly half of the total voltage. In practice, however, deviations occur. These depend on numerous factors, such as a different state of charge in new batteries or cells, different temperatures, internal leakage currents, capacities, and many more.
Large or increasing deviations in the midpoint voltage indicate improper battery maintenance or a faulty battery or cell. Corrective actions as a result of a midpoint voltage alarm can prevent serious damage to an expensive battery. Please also refer to the manual for more information.
Easy Programming
A quick installation menu and a detailed scrollable setup menu assist the user in making the various settings. Please refer to the manual for further details.
