The precision battery monitor BMV-702 constantly monitors the status of your battery. Battery current and voltage are continuously measured. With this data, the current state of charge of your battery is accurately calculated, providing a reliable value so you always know how much energy is still available.
Standard Features:
- Display of battery voltage, current, power, consumed amp-hours, and state of charge
- Display of remaining runtime at current discharge rate
- Programmable visual and audible alarm
- Programmable potential-free switching contact, which switches when an adjustable state of charge or a specific battery voltage is reached, e.g., to switch off non-essential loads, switch on a generator if needed, or perform other actions, and of course switches back when a programmable threshold is reached.
- VE.Direct communication port
- Stores a wide range of historical data, which can be used to assess usage patterns and battery condition (historical values).
How it works:
Battery capacity is measured in amp-hours (Ah). For example, a battery that delivers 5A for 20 hours has a capacity of 100 Ah (5x20=100). The BMV continuously measures the current flowing into and out of the battery and calculates the amount of energy supplied or withdrawn. However, since the effective capacity of a battery also depends on its age, discharge current, and temperature, a simple consideration of amp-hours is not sufficient. For example, if a 100 Ah battery is discharged in two hours, due to the high discharge current, it will only have an available capacity of 56 Ah.
Apparently, the battery capacity is almost halved. This phenomenon is called Peukert's efficiency. In addition, the capacity is further reduced by high or very low temperatures. Thus, simply recording amp-hours or voltage values is not sufficient to assess the state of charge of a battery. The BMV battery monitor displays both the actual Ah withdrawn and the current state of charge corrected for Peukert's coefficient and charging efficiency. Observing the state of charge is the best way to assess the battery's condition. The value is given in percent, where 100% means fully charged and 0% means completely empty. This can be compared to the fuel gauge in a car.
Additional functions of the BMV-702 compared to the BMV-700:
- Additional input for measuring voltage (of a second battery), as well as associated alarm and relay settings for the second battery.
- Temperature measurement of the battery (only with optional temperature sensor BTS-702) and recalculation of the resulting available battery capacity.
Midpoint voltage measurement (see below). - Please note that it is not possible to use several of the above-mentioned additional functions simultaneously, as the same connection port on the shunt is always used.
New: Midpoint voltage monitoring (BMV-702 only)
This function, frequently used in industry to monitor large and expensive battery banks, is now available for the first time at a lower price, so that any battery bank can be monitored. A battery bank consists of a string of cells connected in series. The midpoint voltage is the voltage after half of the string. Ideally, the midpoint voltage is exactly half of the total voltage. In practice, however, deviations occur. These depend on numerous factors, such as different states of charge in new batteries or cells, different temperatures, internal leakage currents, capacities, and many others.
Large or increasing deviations in the midpoint voltage indicate improper battery care or a faulty battery or cell. Corrective measures resulting from a midpoint voltage alarm can prevent serious damage to an expensive battery. Please also refer to the manual for further information.
Easy Programming
A quick installation menu and a detailed scrollable setup menu assist the user when making various settings. Please refer to the manual for further details.
