Perhaps you're familiar with the situation: You're at the beach in your camper, listening to the car radio for an extended period or frequently opening the door. Suddenly, the vehicle's battery management system reports that the (starter) battery is running low and either switches off the radio or prompts you to charge the battery. This is often caused by high power consumption from the car radio or vehicle control systems, which activate for a while each time the door is opened and draw a relatively large amount of power from the starter battery. While modern mains chargers, solar charge controllers, and combination chargers feature a powerful main output and a reduced-power secondary charging output that provides a defined trickle charge to the starter battery, many factory-installed chargers or solar charge controllers unfortunately lack this capability altogether.

The leisure battery is often optimally charged by solar or the mains charger, while the starter battery starves. A so-called StandBy Charger can remedy this.

The VOTRONIC StandBy-Charger Pro is used for automatic recharging and trickle charging of the starter battery from the leisure battery. The device can be easily retrofitted by simply connecting it between the leisure and starter battery, without having to change existing wiring.
