Victron Buck-Boost 25A-100A

The solution for battery charging problems with Euro 5 and Euro 6 engines and alternator protection with lithium systems.

The Victron Buck-Boost series are specially designed DC-DC converters for fully regulated charging of an additional battery or battery bank. The charging booster is universally adjustable and can therefore be used within 12V and 24V battery systems, and can also convert from 12V to 24V and from 24V to 12V. Suitable for lead / GEL / AGM and lithium batteries.
Their use is necessary when vehicles have an "intelligent alternator" and generally for protecting alternators in lithium battery systems.

The alternators of Euro 5 and 6 engines, which are controlled by the on-board electronics, often do not provide sufficient voltage even when the engine is running. Therefore, a B2B charging booster is necessary to charge the additional battery. In lithium battery systems, an alternator must be protected from overload, otherwise it can overheat. Such an overload can occur because the voltage control of the generator/alternator cannot calculate a zero resistance of the lithium battery system in advance.

To ensure that the vehicle's starter battery is always charged first, the Buck-Boost charger only supplies power when the engine is running. The built-in engine-run detection and the associated programmable switching delay make this possible. This also prevents the vehicle's on-board voltage from becoming too low. Thus, it is not necessary to interfere with the vehicle system, install a separate sensor for engine-run detection, or change anything on the CAN-bus system. Apart from engine-run detection, the buck-
/boost converter can also be switched on via a programmable input with D+ or terminal 15 or CANbus.

The booster is fully programmable using a very simple PC application. The output current has an adjustable automatic current limit. The autostop function reacts as soon as a preset maximum temperature is reached.

The output voltage is fully regulated and is isolated from the input voltage due to automatic buck/boost converter control. This control also ensures
that the current remains below the set value. This also applies if the input voltage is higher than the output voltage.
