Benefits of a spare wheel carrier for your Sprinter or Crafter Camper

There are several reasons to consider a spare wheel carrier for your Volkswagen Crafter 2nd gen. / MAN TGE Camper. One of the main reasons is upgrading to larger tires. The factory location for the spare wheel under the vehicle may not accommodate a larger tire size, requiring an alternative location.

Furthermore, relocating the spare wheel frees up space under the vehicle for, for example, water tanks or additional fuel tanks. In off-road situations or difficult terrain, accessing a spare wheel mounted under the vehicle can be challenging. A spare wheel carrier makes the spare wheel much more accessible when you need it most.

Installation Requirements

270-degree doors: You will need to replace the 270-degree hinges with 180-degree hinges. The Cargo Ladder attaches to the hinges and is bolted to the door.

180-degree doors: The Cargo Ladder attaches to the hinges and is bolted to the door.

We also offer wheel bolts. For OEM 16” steel wheels, we offer steel lug nuts with a rounded seating surface. However, most aftermarket alloy wheels typically require 60-degree conical bolts (M14x1.5), which you can also select.

Large wheels may require additional spacers, but for most tire/rim combinations, these are not necessary. Spacers are usually only needed if you are using a high ET rim, such as an ET 62, in combination with a large tire or if the wheel diameter is 33” or larger.
